What do you need to start a blog?

Maybe you were thinking about starting a blog. And maybe you stopped because there are so many technical details you don’t know about like WordPress, Content-Management-System or Website Hosting. As a beginner, you can be confused very fast and your motivation can suffer.

But the technical details shouldn’t hinder you to build your first online business. So I want to help you so you can focus your energy on working on the content on your blog and not searching for all the technical details.

Here are all things you need to know to start your first blog.

Content Management System (CMS)

A complicated word for a really simple thing. A CMS takes care of your content so you can easily add, remove or edit posts or pages. The most used and most popular CMS is WordPress. Maybe you have already heard from it.

I saw a statistic that over 30% of all websites are based on WordPress. And this has a reason. WordPress has a really intuitive interface and it is very easy to use. In addition, there are endless plugins you can use, many of them are free. And the best part is that WordPress is free.

So my recommendation is that you use WordPress as a Content Management System.

Hosting

Now that we have a content management system we need a web hoster. A web hoster will install your website on a server so everyone will have access to it. There are many different web hosters and I can recommend the following two:

SiteRubix

SiteRubix is one of the easiest web hoster you can get. You can install a WordPress website in less than 30 seconds. (See here how) SiteRubix comes also with a number of great features like spam protection or site security. Also what I think is really great is, that you can get started for free.

So you can try it out and if you don’t like it you didn’t pay anything. The only downside of the free package is that you can’t use your own domain. You can only use a domain with a “.siterubix.com” suffix. This is great for trying but later on, you should use your own domain.

To use your own domain you have to upgrade to premium which costs about $49 per month or $350 per year. That sounds like a lot but you can manage up to 25 different websites and you get access to all the classrooms of Wealthy Affiliate. (See here my review)

Bluehost

The other web hoster I can recommend is Bluehost. Bluehost is cheaper than SiteRubix but can be a little bit more complicated installing a website. The big advantage of Bluehost is the price.

Bluehost comes with a price as low as $2.95 per month. In addition, there is one domain included. What a domain is and how you can buy one I will explain to you later but it usually costs around $10-15. So this can be a great offer for everybody who doesn’t want to pay that much and has a little technical knowledge.

Domain

Now that we have a content management system and a web hoster the next thing we need is a domain. The domain is the address of your website. If you type in your browser “google.com” you will be addressed to one of Googles server.

There are different domain seller and I can recommend Namecheap.com. As I already mentioned, in Bluehost you have one domain included so you don’t need to buy one. If you want your own domain at SiteRubix you can buy one at SiteRubix or Namecheap.

I don’t know if there are price differences but sometimes SiteRubix doesn’t have the wished domain and Namecheap has so maybe you need to check both of them.

A domain costs around $10-15 per year, what is really cheap in my opinion. Don’t think too much about your domain name. Think about 2-3 words which describe your topic or your name and mix them until you found a free domain you can buy.

In my opinion, these are the most important technical issues you need to know about. Once you have set up your website and it is running you don’t need to worry about the technical details. And from there it is really easy. The next step is to create pages and content.

They also have own products like the Kindle. I’m sure you know about the Kindle. And you can use this technology they have invented. You can write your own ebook and sell it to every customer with a Kindle. An ebook can be a great way to earn good money. You need to take care of the marketing but once the sales of your ebook are enough you earn money without doing something.

If you have already made good sales with your Ebook you can also sell your own book on Amazon. They have created the opportunity to sell your book. All you need to do is to visit the “Amazon Author Central” and there you can create your first book.

As you already have the text, the cover, and the title of your book the effort is very small. This makes it possible to access even more people.

Affiliate Program

Last but no least there is the Amazon Affiliate program. This can be a good option for everyone with a website. Let’s say you have a blog about fishing. So you can, for example, write a review about a fishing pole and add a link to Amazon where they can buy this product.

If they click the link and they buy something you get a commission. That’s great but that’s not all. The great thing is that if somebody follows your link and buys something completely different you also get a commission. If you have a link for a book and somebody buys a refrigerator you get the commission of a refrigerator. (And that’s a lot)

But isn’t the commission of the Amazon Affiliate program comparably small?

As you can see, despite the lower conversions, the Amazon Affiliate Program can be the better choice.

Today I’m gonna show you how to make money blogging. I believe, that there are many people who dream about the lifestyle of a blogger. But also most of these people don’t know how to start a blog or how to earn money with a blog.

So in this article, I show you the different ways how to earn money with a blog.

Why earn money blogging

There are several different reasons to start a blog. You can use the additional income to pay off your debt or to finance a higher lifestyle. Or maybe you take the money and invest it so you will be financial independent more quickly.

You can quit your current job and escape the usual 9-5 life. You will have the possibility to life wherever you want to and you can work from literally everywhere. You will have the possibility to earn money while sleeping and going on vacation.

Of course, you have to take care of your blog but if you want to you can outsource it. I believe there are several other reasons to start blogging and I’m sure you will find much more.

Ways to earn money

There are several different ways to monetize your blog. I’m sure there are plenty more but in my experience, these are the most effective.

Affiliate marketing

In affiliate marketing, you sell products from a merchant. This can be another blogger or any company which has an affiliate program. If you go onto google and search for affiliate programs you will find a lot of information. There are affiliate programs from Nike, NBA, Microsoft or Amazon.

As an affiliate, you get paid when a customer buys something coming from your website. This usually works with an affiliate link. If the user buys something you get a commission. The commission depends on the price of the product and the affiliate program.

Of course, you can’t advertise new Nike shoes on a garden blog nobody would buy these. The products have to fit your visitors. So for example, if you have a garden blog you can show them which shovel they should buy or which semen you recommend.

Search for affiliate programs which fit your niche and you’ll be earning money soon.

Advertising

If you have a lot of traffic you can also earn money displaying ads. The biggest program is Google Adsense. Every time a user views the ad you get paid. Of course, you need a lot of users to earn good money but it is a good side income.

You should try not to exaggerate placing your ads. Too much advertisement will annoy your visitors and they will leave soon and never come back.

So one or two banners on the side should be totally enough. But of course, you can experiment a little bit here.

Ebooks

Instead of selling someone else’s product you can also sell your own product. My suggestion would be to sell an ebook. You can create an ebook by yourself and you don’t need to buy something in advance. The only investment you have is your time. If you don’t have a lot of time you can also pay someone who writes your content.

If you don’t have a lot of time you can also pay someone who writes your content. After you finished your ebook you can sell it over Amazon or your website. There are quite a few who earn thousands by selling their ebook every month.

Once you have published your ebook it will produce you money. And the best part is that you don’t have to do anything later. All you have to do is to look on your bank account every month. Of course, maybe you have to do some advertising in the beginning but later on, you get money without doing anything.

How long does it take to make money?

There is no good answer to that. It usually takes some time until you get the first income. That can vary from months to a year. It really depends on how much time you can invest and how fast you will learn.

I know guys who earned thousands after 4 months and other earned thousands after 1 year. So as you can see there is no answer to that. The most important thing is to start and keep working and you will see results some day.

How to use an autoresponder

Have you heard about an autoresponder yet? An autoresponder can be a very powerful tool and today I will show you what it is and how you can use it to earn money on autopilot.

What is an autoresponder

Let’s say you have a website and you added a sign-up form to collect email addresses from your users. Every time a user enters his email address and presses on sign-in you collect a so-called lead. And to every lead, you can send emails.

To build a relationship with your users it is a good idea to welcome them and to tell them something about yourself. For that, an autoresponder can be used. The autoresponder sends one or more emails to your leads after you collected their email address.

This can be for example a welcoming email the day the user signed.

How can you use an autoresponder

As I already mentioned you can use the autoresponder to send a welcome email. You can also use it to send further follow-up emails. For example, if you have a sign-in form that promises the user a free email course (like the one on the right) you can send them the parts of the courses by email with an autoresponder.

Later on, you can inform your leads about new blog posts or about new products you found. The better the relationship between you and your email lead the higher your conversions. If you have users that trust you very much it is very likely that they will buy one of your products.

Let’s say you have a blog about fitness. So the first welcome mail can be for example about motivation. 3 days later you can send them an email with diet tips. 5 days later they get an email about a workout or something like that.

How can you earn money with an autoresponder

You can also use it to promote your products. Let’s take again the example of the fitness blog. The third mail, for example, can be a promotion about your training system. This is very powerful because your customer already has a relationship with you so they are more willing to open your mail and try your product.

And while they are reading your mail you don’t have to do anything! These emails will be sent on autopilot so you can sell your products while relaxing on the beach or drinking beer 🙂

It really depends on your user base and the context but in email marketing, you say that one lead is worth about $1 per month. That means if you have 1,000 leads you can make about $1,000 per month. Of course, not everyone in your list is buying your product.

But if you have for example a cheap product for $10 it is very likely that more people will buy it. If 10% of you list buys your product you earn up to $1,000: 1.000 leads x 10% x 10$ = 1,000$.

If you have a more expensive product fewer people will buy it but you have more profit per sold unit. As you can see on average you can make about $1 per lead.

Think about how much money you can make with 10,000 leads!

How much does an autoresponder cost

There are some email marketing tools that are free but I can’t recommend all of them. The problem is that in the beginning, it may be great because they are for free but when your user base grows the price also grows and then they are usually more expensive than other tools.

I have used two different autoresponder tools I can recommend. The first one is AWeber. It has a clean and simple interface and has all the features you need, to begin with. You can test AWeber for free for 30 days and later it starts at $19 for 500 users.

The other email marketing tool I can recommend is GetResponse. It has also a 30 days trial period and in addition some marketing tools like webinars or landing pages. It starts at $15 for 1.000 users.

I started email marketing with AWeber and I was totally happy with it and I use GetResponse on this website and I’m also totally happy with it. I don’t think you can do anything wrong here!

When it comes to email marketing I often hear: “But that’s $15 per month!”. Yes, that is true but email marketing is a very good investment. If you have a solid user base you don’t need to work much on your website anymore because you can earn good money with your user base.

In this article, you learn how to earn extra money in the comfort of your own home. Earning extra money can be very useful. You can pay off your debt or finance a better lifestyle. You can also save the extra earned money to get financial independent in a shorter time.

There are many good reasons why to search for a job that you can do at home. Maybe you want to avoid the traffic or maybe you want to take care of your kids. Also maybe you want to work while enjoying in the sun or sitting at the beach.

Usually, it takes around 3 months until your website earns money but your earnings can get really high. So you have to put in your work at first and later you can earn the results. If you need money fast this is maybe not the right option for you.

Freelancer

If you want to earn money right away you can start earning money as a freelancer. As a freelancer, you can write articles, design logos or websites or develop applications and many things more.

You can get paid per hour or per project. At the beginning, it may be helpful to start with earning money per hour so you can find out how long you need for a project. I used to work with freelancer.com which is a great platform to hire freelancers or to work as a freelancer.

Earn money for surveys

You can also get paid by answering surveys. There are several providers for that, I used Swagbucks and it worked very well. By answering questions at Swagbucks you get gift cards for Amazon, iTunes or other online shops.

With Swagbucks, you can also save money while shopping. All you need to do is to go shopping in the preferred shops and you earn Swagbucks which you can use to buy gift cards.

Virtual assistant

There is also the possibility to work as a virtual assistant. As a virtual assistant, you have to do several tasks someone wants to be assisted by. This can be for example planning a business trip or writing invitations. If you are good at organizing this can be a really good job for you!

Test websites

You can also get paid by testing websites. UserTesting.com is such a website. You can get $10 for each website test and $15 for every mobile website tests.

You need to install software which will record your screen and your voice and all you have to do is to visit a website and comment on the usability or look and feel of the website.

Teach others

You can earn good money by teaching others. Before you think that you can’t teach anything I will stop you there. I’m pretty sure that there is something where you are good at and what you can teach others.

If you don’t want to write a blog or anything like that this can be a good opportunity. I heard that Teachable is a very good website for that.

Create ebook

It was never easier to publish an ebook than today. You can either sell it through your own website or Amazon. If you want to earn money by selling an ebook you need to do some work in advance. You need to write the text of your book, you need to choose a title for your book and you need to design a cover.

Some of the work can be outsourced but then you need to pay in advance. If you have launched your ebook it can be a great stream of passive income.

Develop an app

If you are good at coding you can either work as a freelancer or develop your own application. Here needs to be done a lot of work in advance, but if you have a useful application in the app store you can earn good money.

This can also be a great stream of passive income, but as I said a lot of work has to be done in advance. You also need to have knowledge in design and marketing to launch a successful app.

Get paid for searching online

If you use Swagbucks you can earn money while searching online. All you have to do is to use Google as always and you will receive Swag Bucks. These points can be used to get gift cards for Amazon for example. So with very little work, you can earn some money.

As you can see there are several possibilities to earn extra money while staying at home. I started a website over a year ago and I never look back. I can work wherever and whenever I want and this freedom makes me very happy.

If you start building an online business it is important to use email marketing (see here 8 steps to email marketing). However, in the beginning, you have a very small list and therefore only limited options. But what would be if you could borough a huge email list?

If you could send out an email to 3,000 members every 3 days wouldn’t that be awesome? Yes, it is and for that, you can use ViralUrl.

ViralUrl is a viral mailer and there are very mixed opinions about viral mailer and I want to tell you my opinion. But to understand, whether this viral mailer is a good thing or not we have to understand how they work.

How does it work?

The principle of a viral mailer is that you can send a mail to every registered member. In many cases, you need credits to send out emails. You can either earn credits by reading emails from other members or buy them.Depending on the mailer you can send them for free or you need to pay to send mail. In addition, you also get the mail from other users.

Depending on the mailer you can even send out a limited number of emails for free but usually, you have to pay to send out emails.

Also, you get the emails from other members. In some programs, you can disable that by upgrading but as a free member, you will receive promotional email from other members. It is usually a good idea to have an extra email account for this purpose.

You start as a free member. You can upgrade to Silver, Gold or Platinum. From there you can update Diamond or Elite.

The Platinum member comes with the same feature as the Gold member and has some additional features. Key features are here, that you don’t receive mail from other user and you have 2.100 text and banner ads for every month. You have to pay $45.97 every month to be a Platinum member.

From a Gold membership, you can upgrade to the Diamond membership with additional $24.97 per month. As a diamond member, you can email up to 6.000 random members every 3 days.

The highest membership is the Elite membership. Here you can also email up to 6.000 random members every 3 days. In addition, you get 5.000 text and banner ads every month.

You can also buy credits for mailing or banner ads. For 6.000 emails you have to pay $9.97.

Does it work?

I believe that ViralUrl is one of the best strategies to build an email list. Because when you start with email marketing you have no leads at the beginning. And it takes a lot of time to build a huge email list. With ViralUrl you have access to a huge email list and you can send out over 3,000 emails every 3 days.

The effectiveness of viral mailer depends on the quality of your headlines. The members of ViralUrl get between 5 and 20 emails per day so you need a really compelling headline so they will open your email.

Offering a free present is usually a good idea. I tried it myself and with the headline “My present for you, {firstname}!” I was able to generate over 50 clicks. From these 50 clicks, 10 converted into sign ups.

As you can see, viral mailing has some huge potential. If you are able to write a good headline and have a product with a good conversion you can earn a lot of money and build your email list.

The downside

One disadvantage is that you receive emails from other users. You can either upgrade your membership or use another account for that.

In addition, viral mailing looks very costly. But the costs can be very fast refinanced if you are able to sell your product or your affiliate product. Also if you calculate how much you pay per mail that is less than 1 cent!

So I think there is not much downside. Also, you can’t lose much because you can claim your membership for free (click here)

Conclusion

Is viralurl.com a scam? No, it is definitely not!

If you don’t already have a huge email list viralurl.com is a huge opportunity to promote your website or product. If you have a good conversion, also the premium memberships aren’t very expensive. This can be a really great opportunity for all marketers and affiliates.

Reasons to start an online business

Today I will show you my top reasons why you should start your own online business. When I started I wasn’t sure if online marketing is the right thing for me but now I’m absolutely sure. I can live the life I always wanted to and I have enough spare time to spend it with meeting my friends, exercising or reading. Sometimes it can be really challenging but it is absolutely worth the effort.

Being your own boss

Do you like your boss? In many cases, the answer is no. If you don’t like your job or your boss you can do three different things:

a) you can live with it

b) you can change your current job

c) you can start being your own boss

So if you want to have a change you either have to change your job or start your own business with yourself as a boss. I always wanted to start my own company and be my own boss. So I can come in when I want, take a vacation whenever I want and best of all I can do whatever I want. I don’t have to do tasks that are meaningless.

If you start building your online business you can be your own boss. Of course, you still have to work but you have freedom. You are free from a job you don’t like and a boss you don’t want to work with.

Solid income

Earning good money while not working too much sounds unachievable. It sounds more like a dream. It seems like, that most of the people who earn solid money have to work a lot. So they have a lot of money but they don’t have much time. I always dreamed earning good money and having time to enjoy my life. And I found a way to achieve both. This way is online marketing.

At the beginning, it was a lot of work to get my business running but once it was running good I had much more time to enjoy my life. To travel around the globe. To meet with friends. And I also earn solid money.

I’m earning the same money my colleagues do, but only working half of the time. And there is no limit how much you can earn. There are bloggers out there who earn more than $100.000 each month. That’s incredible, isn’t it? And the best part is that you don’t have to work for money.

As I already mentioned, if you have an online business you don’t need to drive every morning to work. You also never have to be somewhere to work. You can work from anywhere, you only need an internet connection. So you can work from home, the coffee shop or the hotel lobby. You can also work from your balcony looking at your city. Or you could work at the beach with the sound of breaking waves.

This is a part of online marketing I really love. Because when I feel stuck I leave my current place and go somewhere else. Maybe I continue my article sitting in the park. Or maybe I finish my article sitting in a coffee shop while drinking an iced coffee.

There are endless possibilities you only need to take the chance. I once wrote an article while sitting on a bench looking at the mountains. This was an incredible feeling. And I’m still excited that I can work from nearly anywhere.

Working on your passion

Work will be always something we don’t enjoy, right? I thought so many years. But when I stumbled across online marketing I had to change my opinion on that. Because now I was not only working for money, no I was working with my hobbies and interests. I work with topics I feel very passionate about. I don’t have the sad feeling on a Sunday that I have to work tomorrow, no I’m really excited. I’m excited to stand up in the morning and have a look at my business.

And I really enjoy every minute working on it. Life is too short to work on something you don’t enjoy. In this context I always remember this quote from  Steve Jobs:

Work will fill a large part of your life and the only way be truly satisfied is to love what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet keep looking. Don’t settle. – Steve Jobs

Whenever I hear this quote I’m touched. When I discovered online marketing and I created my first business I felt very passionate. And I still do. Every time I think about it I feel a power inside of me. And this keeps me going, in spite of every problem I’m challenging. If you want to work with passion you need to find your passion. And why not by starting an online business?

How to create a website easily in 30 seconds (Including video proof)

Today you will learn how to create yourself a website in only 30 seconds. Together with a website, you can start earning money and creating the lifestyle you always wanted!

To build your website at first you need to choose a web hoster. There are many different good web hosters like SiteRubix or Bluehost.

In SiteRubix you can create free websites with a <yourwebsite>.siterubix.com domain. If you want to use your own domain you need to access a premium account. The premium account also unlocks the classrooms of Wealthy Affiliate (see my review here).

Bluehost is one of the top web hosting companies and you can host your website for as low as $2.75 per month. If you have already some knowledge and a low budget I would recommend you to use Bluehost. If you have no experience at all SiteRubix will be your better choice!

Today I will show you how to use SiteRubix because you can use it for free and its easier to set up a website. This is great of you want to play around a little bit.

Step 1: choose a domain

At first, you need to choose yourself a domain. Don’t think about it too much. Your domain should be easy to read and if possible to be catchy. If you mix up around 2-3 words this should be enough.

If you mix up around 2-3 words about the main topic this should be enough. Let’s say you want to create a website for people who want to learn fishing. “learnfishing.com” or “learntofish.com” could be two possible domains.

Now that you have chosen your domain, try if it is still available:

If it is available click on “Build it Now” and you will be transferred to the SiteRubix homepage.

The next thing you need to do is to fill out the form with your name and a password. As I said, everything is free so you don’t need to pay for anything.

As I already mentioned as a free member you can only choose a domain with “.siterubix.com” as a domain name. But this is totally sufficient for now so just click on “A Free Website” to continue.

Step 2: Name of your website

Now you have to enter the name of your website. This can be for example: “Learn how to fish”.

But don’t worry about the name you can change this as often as you want.

Step 3: Design of your website

The next step is to choose a design for your web page. As a free member, there is a small choice of different design. As a premium member, you have access to over 1.000 professional designs.

You can click on “demo” and try out every single design if you want to.

Many people think that design is the most important part of a successful web page but this is not true. More important is your content and whether it is interesting or not.

I give you an example, do you think Reddit is so successful because of the design? No of course not, Reddit is successful because of the content. And that should be your number one focus on building an online business.

Step 4: Create your website

The last step is to create your website. If you have picked your domain, name, and design of your website you can click on “I’m ready, Build My Website Now!”. Now your website will be created and is online now.

Congrats! This is your first step to start building your online business.

Work with your website

Now that you have created your first website let’s have a look how you can work with it. You should now have in front of you the SiteRubix manager.

You can now press “Log in” and you will see all the users of your website. At the moment there is only the user “admin” so press “Login now” and you will come to your website.

You now see the dashboard of your side. This is the view as an admin. If you want to see your side from the view as a visitor click on the upper left corner on the name of your website and “visit now”.

You can come back by clicking again on the left upper corner on your website name and “dashboard”.

In the dashboard, you can administer all your posts, pages, comments, and so on. If you want you can start by writing an “About Me” page or write your first post.

How to have more time for the things you love

In life, there are three things we can invest: time, money and energy. And today I want to share you my thoughts about how we can have more time to do the things we love.

The big issue with time is that it is limited. Everyone on this planet has the same 24 hours. And depending on how you use this 24 hours, it can decide whether you’ll be successful or not.

Here are some tips that helped me to get more time to do sports, meeting friends or just relaxing in front of the tv 🙂

Work more efficient

This can be very interesting especially for college students. Because now you are at a point where you can schedule your time as you want. If you can do your tasks in one hour instead of two hours you have one hour which you can use for anything.

This is not the case if you have a 9-5 job and you can leave work at five o’clock independent of open or closed tasks.

But how could you work faster and better at the same time? Here I have some tips, that could help you.

Focus is one of the most important aspects of working efficiently. It is important that you focus on only one thing at the time. I made the experience that multi-tasking is slower than working on only one task. Because every time you switch between two tasks you need some time to rethink what exactly you have to do.

And there you are losing time and energy. So focus on only one task at the time. And also shut down every possible distraction. Silent your phone and close your mail application. Also, disable notifications on your laptop and close facebook while working.

In addition, you should try to optimize your processes every time. Maybe you need to read some books about speed reading or working more efficient. Try to improve yourself step by step. You don’t need to be perfect at this moment but if you keep improving you will be one day better than most of the people.

Use waiting time better

I don’t know how you feel, but for me, there are many times in life I need to wait for something or someone. That may be waiting at the doctor or waiting for a friend who is always late. Or maybe you need to take the bus or the car to get to college, work or whatever.

And I always hated waiting. Standing or sitting there doing nothing until something happens. That doesn’t sound very exciting. So I was thinking about how I can use this times better. And I found several different ways on how to use this time better.

I don’t know how you are learning, but I tend to write all the thinks I need to remember on index cards. There are also apps if you are more into technology. However, what I wanted to say is that it is easy to use two minutes waiting time for learning your index cards.

Guess what, if you use your waiting time for learning you are learning more without doing more! Let’s say you used your index cards in your waiting time and you have been able to work with them for 20 minutes in one week. That’s 20 minutes you have been learning without sitting down and motivating yourself.

You can also use this time to read papers you need to read or check your mail. Just try to use your waiting time more efficient and you will gain a lot of more spare time.

Plan Better

Good planning can save you a lot of time. Yes, planning also takes time but it is worth the effort. I heard that every minute planning can save up to 10 minutes of work. This is of course not always true but it shows the possibility.

But what makes planning so efficient? At first, you have to take bigger tasks and split them into smaller tasks. These smaller tasks must be so small that they can be done in less of 2 hours. If that is not the case make them smaller.

By writing down all the tasks you get an overview how much you have to do. Now you can assign tasks for every day. You shouldn’t assign to many tasks, that could demotivate you.

The next step is that you need to follow your plan. Work every day on your tasks and go to bed when you are finished. When you checked off all the completed tasks you can feel very proud!

Making a plan has the advantage that you always know what you have to do. Also, you can always watch your progress while working on your plan. It also gives you the opportunity to control your processes and try to improve them.

In addition, you know exactly when you have done all your tasks and you can enjoy the rest of the day, knowing that there are no tasks left.

At the beginning, you may have the problem of planning too much or too little. And that’s perfectly fine. Improve your planning from week to ween and you will get better every time. Also, you can plan yourself rest days where you can enjoy your life without having any tasks. This can often be very useful.

Prioritize

You always need to prioritize your tasks. Work on your most important tasks at first. When you are finished you can work on your less important tasks. In addition, you can also delegate smaller tasks.

This may be not an option for college students but this can be very helpful later. There will be always a lot of tasks you need to do and when you want to enjoy some spare time you have two possibilities: a) don’t do all of them or b) delegate tasks.

You can delegate tasks like cleaning, cooking, buying groceries, gardening and much more. To decide whether I want to outsource something or not I do the following: At first, I calculate my price/hour. This can be the price you actually earn or the price you think you are worth. For example, my price is $15/hour. Now I have a look at the costs and the effort the task. For example, groceries shopping costs me about half an hour.

$15/hour * 1/2 hour = $7.5

The boy who can buy me my groceries wants to have $5 so that is less than I would pay for myself. So for me, this deal is worth it, because I would make more money working than shopping groceries.

I hope you can see my point here! Of course, you can’t outsource everything but the more you can, the more spare time you will have.

As you can see there are many different possibilities to get more spare time. And isn’t that what we all want? Because our time is limited so we need to try to make the most out of it.

Why long-term goals are important

how are you? Today I want you to tell something about long-term goals. I already wrote an article about how to set yourself the perfect goal. In this article, I will show you what a long-term goal is and why it is important that you have at least one. Are you ready? Then let’s start.

Long-term goals

At first, I want to show you my definition of a long-term goal. The time frame can go from 10 years to over 20 years. This goal can be anything. From career and wealth to relationships and family. I’m sure you already may have plans for some things. Maybe you want to know if you want to have a family or kids or whether you want to drive a Ferrari.

The important thing is that you need to be sure about your goal and believe in it. There are plenty of young people who don’t have an idea whether they want to have a family or not and this is okay. But once you have a goal you can start working on it.

Having such a goal can be real mind shifting. All the next steps you do will be just further steps towards your goal. This effects career questions as well as relationship questions. And you will find answers faster because your inner compass knows where you want to go.

The inner compass

To show you why a compass is important I want to tell you a short story. Imagine you have a plane crash on an island and by wonder, you and some other people survive this accident. All you know is that there is a small village somewhere in the south and luckily the compass of the plane survived.

So you and the group decide to start walking towards the south direction. After three days of walking, you reach the village and you’ll be rescued. So what should you take from this story?

Do you think that you would have kept walking for three days without a compass? I’m sure after the first day you would have stopped and maybe walked in the wrong direction.

If you know, where you want to go you can reach your destination step by step. Because you have a compass pointing in the right direction.

Eating an elephant

Know, that you know why it is important why to have a long-term goal I want to tell you how to reach your goal. I once heard the following sentence from a friend and I really like it

How to reach a goal? Ask yourself how do you eat an elephant?

When he asked me this question I was confused. I said: “I don’t know”. His answer really surprised me: “You’re thinking to difficult. If you want to eat an elephant you eat it step by step until there is no piece left.”

And that is exactly the same when you want to achieve your goal. You have to start and work piece by piece until you reached your goal. Maybe it is hard to see all the necessary steps in order to reach your goal. You need to find some milestones in between you can reach more easily. Once you reached a milestone you can have a look at your compass and search for the next step.

So step by step you will work towards your goal until your dream becomes your reality.

I hope I was able to motivate you to set yourself some long-term goals. Write them down and look at them every day, this will help you to focus on the right tasks.
